A Perspective on the Pledge examines the prejudice inherent in having citizens pledge allegiance to 'one nation under God' by imaging a country where students pledge to 'one white nation.'
In the story, Shawn, a black high school student, discovers that he has reason to object to his school's policy of pledging allegiance to 'one white nation'
By request, I have written some of the basic principles of the desire utilitarian moral theory that sits as the foundation for these blog postings into a book called, A Better Place: Selected Essays in Desire Utilitarianism.
In a previous post, I wrote a detailed account of the contents of the book.

I believe in what you are doing with this Pledge Project, and I think you deserve the widest audience possible. Even if we can just get more people thinking about the issue, that will be a step in the right direction.
